This service continues the success of the Lillehammer Olympic Web server and now provides the first dynamic global online source of information about the world's largest sporting event.
When the games begin on June 17th, the World Cup USA '94 pages will begin to change daily reflecting the current date, that day's events, results and standings. New and different imagery, graphics, and text will enhance this dynamic online electronic news source.
Official results, imagery (game photos), and standings will be updated shortly after each game. Each team's standings and statistics will be updated as the games progress, and the previous days' pages will be accessible to the sports enthusiast.
Initial information about each team, game schedules, historical data, and venues will be available starting June 10th 1994.
The information has been organized for ease of use and to target the viewer's interests. A general overview of how the information is organized on the World Cup USA '94 server is provided below.
- Results and Standings
- At the top of the home page is the results and standings section,
placed there for quick and easy access. Fans can click on this
to see the latest results of the last matches played. Official
standings and results will be downloaded from the World Cup New
Service (WCNS) and posted to all mirror sites worldwide.
- Game Sites and Schedules
- The user starts with a map of the US showing all nine venues,
represented by location name and a stadium icon. The map will
be updated daily to reflect where are games are being played
on that day.
- When the user clicks on a stadium icon, they go to the venue
page where it lists the local venue's matches, dates of play
for that venue, an overview graphic of the stadium, and
directions to the stadium. A listing of the overall World Cup
Schedule for all sites is also available from these pages.
- The first stage schedule will be followed by the quarter finals
schedules and finals schedules, which will be updated daily.
- An Elimination Road Map is also provided for an overview of the
matches and provides a quick guide on how the games are
structured.
- A TV schedule lists the days, times, sites, games, and network
broadcasting for the games.
- Participating Teams
- Provides information on each participating team listed by Group.
Each team's photo and first round matches are listed. As
each match is played, the teams' standings and statistics will be
updated. General information about the team is listed, including
past World Cup participation and history.
- World Cup Information
- This section includes: Information on World Cup USA '94, an overview
of the technology behind the Games, a history section on previous
World Cups, general rules of the game for new sports enthusiasts,
and short 1 minute audio clips (16 bit CD and 8 bit audio) of the
World Cup USA '94 theme song.
- Host City Information
- Map of the US and all 9 venues. This section includes general
area information for each venue such as: population, climate,
local attractions, special events, important telephone numbers
(i.e. Convention and Tourism Bureau, Embassy and Consular
addresses and telephone numbers for all partcipating teams),
transportation schedules and information, areas of interest,
hotels, restraurant listings, rental car/airline/train/bus/taxi
telephone numbers, and more.
