About Me

Currently I am going to pursue a Ph.D. degree in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park this fall.

I was born in PingTung, the southern county of Taiwan, 1976.  I am interested in classic Music , choral music, trumpet playing and German. I would like to chat with people. Actually, I am talkative. I am used to work for long period. When I made a C compiler in the first year of undergraduate, I almost lived with a SPARC workstation in the computer center for ten days. When I made the undergraduate project, a secure and mobile instant messenger system, I stay behind my PC except eating and sleeping. Now I seldom have the chance to work that long but when sitting behind the computers, I still feel that I am a ball of fire.

I started play computers since 8086/8087, the primitive PC processor of Intel, with DOS version 3.21. I've little memory on Apple 8-bit processors because that at that time, I can only play games on them but no program. What I think the miracle is the Next Cube, which archived so great high technologies on Graphic User Interface (GUI) and Multimedia. When I was freshman, I did use it in the computer center in my department. All is great, except its performance, that it's too slow.  When I was a senior high school student, I had the change to use IBM workstation run by the AIX operating system. The first attractive toys of AIX is the TALK/WRITE utilities. They made me communicate with others by typing words.

I have many good friends. Mostly they are my friends from National Chaio-Tung University and chorus. The long period of singing together makes us tightly connected. Now many of us are living in different locations but we still connected each other by MSN or Yahoo Messenger. Many years ago, we used the ytalk to chat in the SPARC workstation. Quite interesting.

About my family, my mother was a history teacher. She is also my junior high school teacher. She tells stories in the class, and I love it. She bought a lot of books for me and my sister. That's why I can keep learning, reading and thing all the time. Father was a Telecommunication engineer. My older sister is a teacher of Math. Her daughter is quite a beauty (see the photo blow).

M.S. (2001 ) and B.S. (1999), Dep. of Computer Science & Information Engineering

M.S. Thesis Abstract:

To detect distributed denial of service and distributed scanning attacks, we propose Anomaly Dispersion Scheme (ADS). Observing the creation of packet fields in attack programs and normal programs, ADS monitors the distributions of packet fields, which alter when the attack programs using raw socket interface partake in, to detect intrusion. The sets of anomaly packet fields are attack signatures. ADS is a combination of compiler and network protocol concepts. It gives the network intrusion detection problem another view from the generating of network packet fields. The short and enhanced version of the thesis is available as the first paper followed.
